Questions About Stop Smoking Aids

John asks…
what is a good way to quit smoking without buying those expensive stop smoking aids?
i want to quit smoking but i don’t want to buy those stop smoking aids that are expensive and never work. have any suggestions?

admin answers:
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.
Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.
Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, hypnosis or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Lisa asks…
Is it safe to use these stop smoking aids together?
Is it safe to use the nicotene patch and supplement it with the nicotene gum or lozenges? I thought you could not, but on a local news channel they said a study shows using these in combination leads to more success than some methods such as using each alone. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Hi daddysred..
Actually the old school was just to use one nrt, at a time.. It is possible to damage your heart by Too much nicotine..i too have heard that possibly, the combination wasn’t as bad as previously thought..but as the other contributor noted.. Best err on the side of caution..
One thing that is well known is that participation in a support group can improve your chances of quitting dramatically.. Im a member of nicotine anonymous, and attend meetings both locally, and on line..on line meetings are as close as computer.. And you attend while planning a quit, before actually quitting..
However you decide to proceed good luck.. There is simply no wrong way to quit..
Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

Lizzie asks…
Stop smoking aids, which ones to use?
I’ve been smoking for awhile. I tried the patches and gum with no results and a lot less money in the end. I’m going to see my doctor about maybe a prescription stop smoking aid. Does anyone know of any names so I can read up on them? Thanks!

admin answers:
If you go to the doctor they will no doubt prescribe Chantix. I have heard so many horror stories about this medication that I can not believe that people would even suggest it as an option.
Check out this link for some such horror stories

Chantix has many side effects, as the people who answered you have testified. These include nausea (30%), sleep problems (insomnia, nightmares, strange & vivid dreams), constipation, gas and vomiting.

Most companies who sell quit smoking aids admit to this on their websites. They say to use their products in conjunction with a psychological support program. Why? Because without one the chances of quitting are greatly reduced. In reality the psychological program does most of the work. The quit smoking aids are more of a helping hand and are often unnecessary.

Linda asks…
Is it true that quitting smoking while pregnant is worse that continuing to smoke?
One of my friends is pregnant and she claims her doc told her quitting smoking would put stress on the baby and he told her to continue to smoke. I can’t picture a doc ever telling someone to continue to smoke…pregnant or not!
Well she is 8 months along now. I don’t see how women can think smoking is okay for an unborn baby when there are warnings right on the cigarette pack about it. Also, it is unhealthy for adults so what do they think it does to an unborn child?
Also, she is planning on breastfeeding!!!! Isn’t that dangerous to do when you smoke?

admin answers:
I would be very interested to know what doctor would say that…I have never heard that myself but I can’t imagine that any good would come out of that…..Good Luck to your friend!

Jenny asks…

Carol asks…
Quitting smoking while pregnant?
I need some major advise please. As far as my diet goes im very healthy, but i found out that i am pregnant and quitting smoking is becoming a problem because i have horrible withdrawals which i feel are bad for the baby as well, can someone suggest me something because the nicotine gums and stuff say not to use while pregnant either. A little help would be nice from someone who did this before, thanks.

admin answers:
Try cutting down rather than giving up altogether as it can be worse for the baby if you are stressed out from needing to smoke. My cousin smoked 20 a day and was told not to quit by her doctor but to reduce her intake. If you can get down to 1 or 2 a day that’s great and maybe give up completely once baby is born as you wont want baby around second hand smoke.
Good luck and don’t worry. Congrats x

Once you’ve made that crucial decision that you are going to quit smoking, you are going to need all the stop smoking help you can find. But before you let yourself get buried under a pile of websites and stop smoking tip sheets, it would be good to think about what you really want to get from quitting smoking.
Most people do not decide they want to quite smoking because they need something different to do on a Tuesday morning. They make the decision to stop because something icky happened to them or they got scared and they finally got disgusted enough with themselves to make the big decision stick this time.
But many people fail at quitting because they don’t have a plan in place for something to do with their time and money when they do quit. And that is one of the biggest ideas that can help you quit, having something to take the place of smoking.
We are not talking about substituting an e-cigarette for a real honest to goodness burnable cigarette here but about something to do with your time and money after you stop.
Maybe there is something cool you have always wanted to buy for yourself but never seemed to have the money for. But if you quite buying cigarettes, you might find that the amount of money you have to spend suddenly increases. Then there is no reason why you couldn’t invest in that new digital camera or a pair of water skis.
Even though it might seem like there is no way you could buy a new camera today with the money you save by not buying cigarettes, you will be surprised to find it doesn’t take long to get that money. If you take the money that you would be spending on cigarettes and put it in a little coffee can on your dresser, you can probably afford that new camera in a very short amount of time.
So you get two big benefits. You have stopped smoking which is a powerfully good benefit and you have the money to start up a new hobby. You get to win twice.
Another help to stop smoking is to not simply suffer in silence. You don’t need to take out ugly feelings you have on your family members, but in most places there are tons of support groups that you can attend. These people are all going through similar situations to yours and can empathize with what you are feeling physically and emotionally.
It might even come to be that you find some great new friends in that group. Going through a personal trauma like giving up a lifelong addiction can help people draw together in a very close way.
Assistance in stopping smoking is everywhere online. There are probably more websites that have this kind of information than grains of sand on the beach. You just need to take a bit of time to sort out all the suggestions that you come across so you don’t wind up doing nothing by trying to do all of them all at once.
